How to deal with fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is primarily due to a lack of magnesium. Magnesium malate is the best form to take for fibromyalgia as both the magnesium and the malic acid increase adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels, which fuel the cells and help them function properly.
Fibromyalgia is very much like rhabdomyolosis. If you ever hear the statin drug commercials they say that if you start developing muscle pain from the drug to contact your doctor right away. That is because these drugs deplete CoQ10 leading to a decline in ATP formation. Without sufficient muscular ATP the muscles start to break down, a dangerous condition known as rhabdomyolosis. The heart is also a muscle and is prone to the same exact rhabdomyolosis, which is why the statin drugs are well known for causing heart failure but the doctors rarely if ever tell their patients this well known fact.
Anyway, the most important thing to do in fibromyalgia is to increase muscular ATP and the magnesium malate is the most effective way to do this.
Fibromyalgia has also been linked to lower serotonin levels.
Now there is brain serotonin and gut serotonin. We are more concerned with the gut serotonin. The brain generates its own serotonin as the serotonin molecule is too large to cross the blood-brain barrier. About 70-80% of the body's serotonin is produced by our gut flora and this serotonin has other effects on the body other than mood and regulation of sex drive. There are actually 18 different serotonin receptors in the body.
Best way to elevate gut serotonin is with fibers to feed the flora. I prefer soft fibers such as rice or oat bran and the vegetable gums (konjac gum, xanthan gum, guar gum). There is also inulin and fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Jerusalem artichoke root is a good natural source.
Ingesting freshly cultured foods such as kefir, fresh sauerkraut, miso, tempeh, freshly cultured vegetables, etc is also very helpful.
